Welcome to Guide to Cancer TreatmentPreamble:Info on Content CreatorSummary
- Content Creator - Philip Nohr, La Crosse, WI Email: pnohr@aol.com - A retired economist from a Fortune 500 company. - A highly experienced Internet user dating back to beta testing of the first commercial web browser, Netscape, and an active participant in Compuserve, Prodigy, and AOL cancer related discussions with leading oncologists and cancer patients worldwide. - A frequent attendee at various International Cancer Conferences dating back to 1994. - An active participant in weekly Internet live chat rooms relating to cancer for 10 years. - The owner of an extensive library on a wide range of cancer relating topics. - A consultant for many years with cancer patients in numerous cities with various stages of cancer diagnosis. Detail My research into cancer therapy options began in 1994 in an attempt to aid a friend diagnosed with late stage lung cancer. At the time, the Internet was in its infancy but had already progressed to the first commercial browser, Netscape, and the primary providers were CompuServe and Prodigy. CompuServe users involved many professionals including medical oncologists who were fascinated with this new tool for sharing ideas on what was called the Cancer Forum. It was there that I made many contacts with leading oncologists from around the country and learned a great deal regarding new developments at the time in the treatment of cancer. My involvement resulted in informing cancer patients of new promising procedures that were then adopted by local medical centers through the willingness of oncologists to work with their counterparts in other areas of the country. Realizing the complexity of cancer therapy options and the rapidly changing developments in the industry, I decided to continue to devote a large portion of my time and energy to stay abreast of new developments in cancer therapy, not only in the U.S. but worldwide. This included a two hour Internet forum exchange with others in the cancer industry every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to noon CST for over ten years. That time was chosen to include those participating from European countries as well as Alaska, were it was 6-8 pm for the former and 6-8 am for the later. These discussions provided insight into different cancer treatments being used successfully worldwide and particularly in Europe. Attendance at several International Cancer Conferences in Washington D.C. provided networking opportunities with others in the cancer industry as well as further insight into therapy options worldwide. The Cancer Control Society convention I attended in California provided further insight into promising complementary therapies as well as the cancer treatment options being offered at the various medical centers in Mexico. A comprehensive summary of the latter is available at a cost of $9.95 from Ralph Moss at his website shown below: CancerDecisions.com Over the years, I have continued to monitor new developments in cancer treatment options via numerous sources including books, newsletters, medical publications, highlights of the annual American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meetings, and Internet websites that daily track news of cancer treatment developments. Two such websites that are comprehensive and include daily updates on cancer treatment developments are: - Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania - Medical News Today All of these activities over the years have kept me current on a broad and comprehensive basis of new developments in cancer therapy on a global basis as well as providing a greater perspective of the history of the cancer industry over an extended period of time. To-date, I have shared this information on an ad hoc basis with many cancer patients here in the Midwestern U.S., where I also reside. I continue to encourage cancer patients to bring new cancer treatment practices to the attention of their doctors if they are not offering them, and as a result, have successfully brought a number of new treatment options to major medical centers here in the Midwest, including one of the Mayo Health Centers. I have been encouraged to create this website to document what I have learned over the years as it will hopefully be beneficial to a greater audience of cancer patients worldwide. In that regard, I have attempted here to provide only meaningful information without providing advice or personal opinion. At the same time, I have attempted to be concise as there is a great deal of topics to cover given the complexity of cancer and the wide variety of treatment options. This website does not contain specifics on any particular type of cancer, but does provide valuable direction on where to obtain such information. The bottom line ….the goal of this website is to provide information allowing each cancer patient to create a winning strategy to overcome one of the most challenging health issues they will face in their lifetime. |
